Projects Dream the Planet

Dream the Planet

What I treasure most in life is being able to dream. During my most difficult moments and complex situations I have been able to dream of a more beautiful future.” – Rigoberta Menchú Tum, Nobel Peace Prize Laureate

Dream the Planet uses technology to connect young women and girls, ages 9-18, across six continents to work together on finding solutions for common social issues.

Designed to foster leadership, community responsibility and global engagement, Dream the Planet programming includes:

  • hands-on service opportunities abroad,
  • language instruction,
  • community mobilization training,
  • experience using video conferencing and other online collaborative tools,
  • facilitating quarterly, virtual summits addressing global women’s issues, and
  • mentorship in implementing responsible, sustainable solutions.

Enabling young female leaders to become catalysts for change, Dream the Planet’s mission is to reinforce how young women and girls view themselves as individuals, with a distinct and important place in the worldwide community.

Initiatives

Global Village
Dream the Planet’s Global Village combines the concepts of a town hall meeting and the African proverb “It takes a village to raise a child.” Using streaming, real-time video technology in combination with online forums and messaging tools, quarterly, web-based virtual conferences will be held to unite women and girls across every region of the globe.

Focused on of one area of social, economic or environmental justice each session, the Global Village will not only compare and contrast the difficulties facing women in both developing and industrialized nations, but offer a platform for sharing responsible, sustainable solutions to combat shared local and global issues.

Girls’ Guide to World Domination
The Girls Guide to World Domination is a guidebook series that gives a glimpse inside the lives of Dream the Planet students from around the world. Through interviews, essays, poetry and prose, readers are able to learn about the lives of the girls in relation to personal and global issues, as well as their progress within the organization. Focused on illustrating how similar young women are regardless of class, race, culture or religion the small, pocket-sized book, is a roadmap for girls around the world wanting to transform their own communities.
